Molls: An Interview
Molls is an online store but she’s based in Europe. Her trendy and creative jewelry is handmade and one of a kind. She also charges low prices so everyone can afford to treat themselves every once in awhile. Check her out if you’re searching to update your accessory game.
Who are you and what do you do? My name is Molly and I run Molls, selling jewelry for under £5 (on the whole) for a living. My speciality seems to have become earrings, although I actually started out selling only necklaces! I strive to make sure my jewelry is always as affordable as possible, and always the best possible quality. I wear my earrings everyday, so it would have to be!

How do you make your earrings and jewelry/items? By hand or through a printer? I make pretty much all of my jewelry by hand. I have made it super clear throughout the years that whilst I don’t hand make the charms, I do assemble each and every piece myself. It just means I can keep everything super affordable. You have no idea how many pliers I’ve gone through over the years! Products like my crystal bracelets and earrings are handmade totally by me because I really wanted to include special features, such as the adjustable chain, to make it more accessible for everybody.
What inspired your logo? I’ve been told so many times before that the logo reminds people of the ehlers danlos zebra logo! I absolutely love that. And I wish I had some inspiring, heartwarming story about the logo - but I just like zebras. Over the years I have began to attach different meanings to it though. My favourite two are definitely that whilst zebras look identical, they all have totally unique stripe patterns. I love to think of my business being similar to other ones within the industry, but standing out because it’s me running it. Isn’t that the best part of being self employed? Being able to express yourself! My other favourite interpretation is that I am from Newcastle in the UK - and the football team is black and white!
What inspired your creations to do this? I began Molls in one of the many lockdowns and never ever intended for it to become my full time job. In all truth, I just wanted something to distract me from my declining mental health and bring me a bit of money to support my retail therapy! Like with the lgo, this has changed over the years. As I started doing this full time, I started realising I wanted to create a safe space for people who grew up like me, who didn’t have lots of spare money for all the latest trends, to shop in a way that would enable them to express who they are without breaking the bank.
What has been your favorite to create over the years? Oh that is an impossible question! My favourite jewelry pieces change literally daily. I always find myself reaching for the star rebirth swirl earrings, and the Halloween collection is always my favourite collection. I also hugely enjoy the entire process of making the jewelery advent calendars too! It’s impossible to narrow it down to just one!
What themes or ideas are you drawn to when you create your jewelry and other creations? After doing this for 5+ years now, I have come to realise that the chunkier the jewelry, the more fun and vibrant, the better! Whilst the minimalist designs do well, it’s the statement pieces that steal the show. When I’m planning a new collection I always bear this in mind and try to find a good mixture of these. Stud earrings are also super popular, and rings too, so I try to experiment with including more of these with each new collection.
Have any plans for other items to create? I have SO many plans and different ideas I want to do over the next few months, and even years! It’s difficult to find time for them all, but I always do. And it is always really well received by my amazing followers and customers. They’re always giving me feedback and their own ideas of what they’d love to see me release next - it’s because of them I actually released the now best-selling huggies and studs collection!
Why did you decide to add a clip-on option for earrings? It was never really a question for me to not include clip ons! It was always just about making sure to find the best ones. I’m all for inclusivity and making my business as accessible as possible, even if it’s through clips. Which are so comfortable I have to say! It’s actually also because i didn’t even have my own ears pierced until almost 2 years ago. Yes, i do see the irony in this! If there are ever any more ways I can be more inclusive, I’m all ears (pierced or not!).
Fun Question: If you were stranded on an abandoned island, what five things would you bring with you? (no rules)
If I was stranded on an island I would definitely bring the palm tree earrings, my postman (work colleague as I call him), Scooby Doo spooky island DVD (of course), my laptop so I can map out my beach hut in the sims, and my boyfriend so he can figure out the issue (I am just a girl!).
